Charles “Charlie” Yaw Peprah was born February 24, 1983 in Fort Worth, Texas where is parents emigrated to after leaving Ghana, where Charlie Peprah’s grandfather was the former military president after taking power in a coup. When his grandfather was executed Charlie’s parents left Africa and settled on the US to raise their family. Despite his unique roots, Charlie Peprah took to the all-American game of football early and began his career in high school where he played for Plano East High School. After graduation, Charlie Peprah went to the University of Alabama.
Charlie Peprah played a total of 50 games for the Alabama Crimson Tide in a total of 4 seasons, after taking a redshirt his freshman year. During the 2002 season, his first playing in Alabama, he saw game time in every match-up and started 5 games at corner back and 3 at nickel back. In his sophomore season at Alabama, Charlie Peprah was named All-SEC second team by the NFL Draft report. In the 2004 season, Charlie Peprah was switched to strong safety and became a full time starter. He ranked 5th on the team at the end of the season with 51 tackles. His senior year, 2005, Charlie Peprah was the preseason first team All-American selection by the NFL Draft Report and the second team All-SEC pick by the leagues coaches.
In the 2006 NFL draft Charlie Peprah went to the New York Giants in the 5th round but was eventually released in the final roster cut down and was scooped up by the Green Bay Packers the next day. He saw 8 games on the Green Bay Packers roster as an active member. Despite starting the 2007 season training camp low on the depth chart by the regular season Charlie Peprah was the No. 2 strong safety, he played in all 16 games that season.
In the 2008 Green Bay Packers season Charlie Peprah played in 13 games with 1 start after coming back from a hamstring injury that sidelined him for the first part of the season. In November, Charlie Peprah signed as a free agent to the Atlanta Falcons before resigning with the Packers in 2010. Peprah went from special teams to the sidelines with an injury until October when he was finally put in the game in October. On March 4th, 2011, Charlie Peprah signed a 2-year with the Packers, worth $2.5 million.
