Raymond Newton “Duke” Preston III was born June 12, 1982 in San Diego, California. Duke Preston’s father is the former NFL linebacker Ray Preston. Duke Preston started making a name for himself in the football world at Mt. Carmel High School in San Diego. He was a 4 year letterman at Mt. Carmel High School. In his senior 1999 season, Duke Preston was named Mt. Carmel High School’s MVP and was the team’s Lineman of the Year both his junior and senior season. He was selected to play in the Cal-Hi/Texas All-Star Game and was an Academic All-Team member.

After high school Duke Preston went to the University of Illinois, where he took a redshirt year as a freshman to gain size and skill. He started playing on the University of Illinois roster in 2001 where he saw playing time in 2 games as a back up center. In his sophomore season, Duke Preston started all 12 games as a center. During the 2003 University of Illinois football season, Duke Preston started all 12 games as a center and took every snap of the season only allowing one sack. He registered 71 knockdowns and 6 pressures. In his last season at the University of Illinois, Duke Preston was named team captain and once again started all of the games as the center. He was a part of 704 snaps and did not allow a single quarterback sack.

Duke Preston entered the 2005 NFL draft with good prospects and was selected in the 4th round by the Buffalo Bills, he was the 122 overall pick and also the 4th center taken in that years draft. He played in all 16 games of the 2005 season and filled in at starting center when the Bill’s starter was injured. In 2006 Duke Preston again saw action in all 16 games and started for half of the season. In the 2007 NFL season, Duke Preston did not start but was an invaluable reserve and saw game time with the special teams. In the 2008 season, Duke Preston saw game time in 15 of the 16 games and started the last 11 as center.

On March 30, 2009 Duke Preston was signed to the Green Bay Packers as an unrestricted free agent. He is expected to add depth to both the center and guard positions of the Green Bay Packers roster.
