Durant Stiles Brooks was born April 15, 1985 in Macon, Georgia. Durant Brooks grew up on his family ranch in Macon, Georgia where he owned and road horses which he credits the strength in his kicking leg to. Durant Brooks started to play football at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon, Georgia where he was a letter winner in both basketball and football. In 2001 Durant Brooks was the punter on the Georgia Independent Schools Association Title Team. Tattnall Square Academy retried his jersey and counts Durant Brooks as one of its favorite alum.

After high school, Durant Brooks went to Georgia Military College where he was a student and football player for two years, both of which he lettered. In both of his season he posted an average of 40 yards per punt and as a senior he had a 45.3 yards per punt average. After graduating from the Georgia Military College, Durant Brooks enrolled at Georgia Tech University as a redshirted junior. In his two years with the Yellow Jackets, Durant Brooks rolled in quite the record. In his first season he came in 3rd place for the Ray Guy Award, which is given to the best punter in the nation. As a senior he won this award and was selected second team All-American. In his two years with Georgia Tech, Durant Brooks posted 144 punts: nearly half inside the 20 yard line and a great majority of which flying for more than 50 yards. His longest career punt to date came for the yellow jackets in the 2007 season where he landed a punt from the back of his own end zone to the opposite 16 yard line. In the game records the punt was measured as 77 yards from the line of scrimmage, but that actual punt went over 90 yards.

Durant Brooks was drafted to the Washington Redskins in the 2008 NFL Draft in the 6th round as the 168th overall pick. However, after 6 weeks in the NFL Durant Brooks was replaced by a veteran after his poor performance. Durant Brooks was signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad in December 15th 2008 and was resigned to a future contract at the end of the season . Durant Brooks will be given a chance to compete for the position of punter on the Green Bay Packers roster for the 2009 season.
