Evan Dietrich-Smith was born in Salinas, California and played high school football and basketball for the Salinas High School teams. Evan Dietrich-Smith led his basketball team all the way to the playoffs. On the football field, Evan Dietrich-Smith competed on the offensive and defensive lines over the course of four years, earning a letter from ninth grade to twelfth. Evan Dietrich-Smith received a Golden Helmet Award as team MVP and he was also the recipient of first-team All-Tri-County honors during his senior year.
Evan Dietrich-Smith set a record at Idaho State, his college of choice, for the most starts in school history by an offensive lineman. Evan Dietrich-Smith wrapped up his career with 44 game starts. He was a team MVP as a senior. His junior year offensive line was known for averaging 384.7 yards of offense per game.
In 2009, Evan Dietrich-Smith again made some kind of record. He was the only nondrafted rookie who worked his way onto the Green Bay Packers’ opening-day roster. Evan Dietrich-Smith went on to compete in all 13 season games on special teams and was a back-up for the interior offensive line.
