Jermichael Decorean Finley was born March 26, 1987 in Diboll, Texas. Jermichael Finley and his half brother Jorvorskie Lane, who was the former fullback for Texas A&M and their all time leading scorer grew up playing football together. At Diboll High School, Jermichael Finley was a four year tight end starter. In his high school career he set records for receptions (316), touchdown catches (30) and receiving yards (2,217). As a senior he set the single season record for 36 passes for 876 receiving yards.

After high school Jermichael Finley went the University of Texas to play football for the Texas Longhorns. As a true freshman he took a redshirt, in his first season as an active member of the Texas Longhorns roster, Jermichael Finley played in all 13 games of the season, starting 4 of them after the Longhorns went to a two tight end set. Jermichael Finley was named the University of Texas Outstanding Newcomer after setting several freshman school records. In the 2007 season, as a sophomore Jermichael Finley started in all 13 games, he was named the University of Texas Outstanding Tight End of the Year. He got 45 passes for 575 yards and 2 touchdowns.

In January of 2008, Jermichael Finley declared that he would give up his NCAA eligibility for his junior and senior seasons to enter the NFL draft. At the 2008 NFL Combine, Jermichael Finley impressed scouts with his 4.42 40 yard dash and his 35 inch vertical jump. In the 3rd round of the NFL draft Jermichael Finley was selected by the Green Bay Packers.

In his rookie season on the Green Bay Packers roster, Jermichael Finley played in 14 games with one start. He caught six passes for one touchdown and recorded six special teams tackles.

In 2009, Jermichael Finley competed in 13 games and had 9 starts. Jermichael Finley ended third on the team with 55 catches and 676 yards.
