John Allen Kuhn was born September 9th 1982 in York, Pennsylvania. John Kuhn began playing football competitively at Dover Area High School in Dover, Pennsylvania. At Dover High School he also played basketball, baseball and track.
After high school John Kuhn went to Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania, a NCAA Division-II school. After taking a redshirt as a freshman, John Kuhn started playing college football in 2001. During his first season he had 30 carries for 330 yards and 1 touchdown as well as 4 receptions for 98 yards. When John Kuhn returned to Shippensburg as a sophomore he was ready to prove he deserved to be on the field as a full time starter, he was named First Team All-PSAC after scoring 100 points, the first Shippensburg player to do so. In 2003 John Kuhn again showed coaches and fans that he was the real deal, he was named PSAC Western Division Offensive Player of the Year and with 22 total touchdowns he was tied for the NCAA Division-II leading scorer. As a senior in 2004, John Kuhn rushed 239 times for 1,487 yards and 14 touchdowns helping lead Shippensburg to the first NCAA Division-II playoffs for the first time since 1991.
In the 2005 NFL Draft, John Kuhn was signed as a non drafted free agent by the Pittsburgh Steelers on April 29. He was released from the Steelers before the regular season but was resigned to the Pittsburgh practice squad in November for the last 4 games of the season. For the first half of the 2006 NFL season, John Kuhn was retained on the Steelers practice squad but was moved to the active roster at the end of October. In the 2006 season, John Kuhn played in 9 games as a fullback for the special teams. In the 2007 season, John Kuhn was signed by the Green Bay Packers after the Steelers waived him. He played in 16 games including both of the Packers playoff contests after Hall was out of commission because of a hip injury. In 2008 his patience and hard work paid off, and John Kuhn played in every game of the season with 3 starts. He caught 4 passes for 21 yards and 2 touchdowns. By 2010, Kuhn had become a Packer fan favorite.
