Kregg Lumpkin grew up in Georgia where he attended Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Georgia and was a four year letterwinner. Kregg Lumpkin competed as runningback, fullback and linebacker but especially excelled as runningback. Kregg Lumpkin rushed for 2,088 yards as a junior and about 600 fewer as a senior.
Kregg Lumpkin next attended Georgia for college. As Kregg Lumpkin worked out on the football field, he also studied for a double major in consumer economics and housing. On the Georgia football team, Kregg Lumpkin earned the honor of being part of the Doak Walker Award candidate watch list. He went on to letter three years. Despite being injured his senior year, Kregg Lumpkin tallied 1,656 yards and 15 touchdowns on 340 carries.
In 2008, Kregg Lumpkin headed to the NFL where he competed in 3 games for the Green Bay Packers. Kregg Lumpkin's most memorable play was when he carried for 19 yards and hauled in three passes for 22 yards.
In 2009, Kregg Lumpkin had a solid preseason. He was second on the Green Bay Packers football team for 95 rushing yards on 27 carries. However, when the final roster cut happened in early September, Kregg Lumpkin was relegated to the practice squad where he spent the remainder of the season.
