Will Edwards Blackmon was born in Cranston, Rhode Island on October 27, 1984. He attended high school at Bishop Hendricken High School. While playing high school football Blackmon got many awards. He earned first team All America honors from USA today and Parade. He was also named Rhode Island’s player of the year by Gatorade. He got All City honors three times and All State honors twice. In 2002 Blackmon played in the U.S. Army All American Bowl.
Will Blackmon played college at Boston College. During his freshman year he recorded 29 tackles playing as a defensive back. As a junior, Will recorded 64 tackles, 10 passes defended, and 4 interceptions. He was named Big East Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the University of Connecticut. In 2004 Will made over 1000 return yards on special teams and earned All Big East second team honors. During the 2005 season with Boston College Will Blackmon was moved from defensive back to wide receiver. He led the team with 51 receptions for 763 yards. He was also selected to participate in the senior bowl.
During the 2006 NFL Draft Will Blackmon was selected in the fourth round by the Green Bay Packers. On December 10, 2007, Blackmon had a 57 yard punt return touchdown and a fumble return touchdown as the Packers wrapped up the NFC North title against Oakland. He became just the fourth player in NFL history to have a kick and fumble return in the same game. Blackmon suffered two breaks of his left foot which kept him sidelined for much of the past two years. In the first game of the 2008 season he returned a punt 76 yards for a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings. He was later named NFC special team’s player of the week.
